CTIS in Partnership with JHU and BJGMC launches a Mobile Care Van in India to Deliver Health Services

July 25, 2016—CTIS in partnership with The Johns Hopkins Center for Clinical Global Health Education (CCGHE) in Baltimore, Maryland and the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College (BJGMC) in Pune, India launched a custom designed Mobile Health and Wellness Clinic in Pune, India. The mobile clinic will deliver healthcare services and wellness counseling as well as facilitate tuberculosis screening and research funded by Indian government and NIH in the state of Maharashtra in India. Innovative approaches that augment traditional service delivery are needed, such as mobile clinical care, to begin to address healthcare shortcomings. Maharashtra is among India’s top regions for cases of both drug-sensitive and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, and the service area for the clinic comprises a population of 7 million people that includes the city of Pune and surrounding villages. The mobile clinic is equipped with radiology technology, lab equipment, and a patient examination room. The vehicle will also offer tuberculosis screening, diagnostics, and treatment services for patients. “We are highly committed to affecting broad changes in India’s ability to address serious health issues,” said CTIS CEO Raj Shah, “CTIS is pleased to provide a tool that can be used to deliver care where it’s needed most.”

CTIS is awarded the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) Informatics and Computer Support Task Order

CTIS is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a task order under the CIO-SP3 contract for the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) Informatics and Computer Support beginning September 15, 2015 by National Cancer Institute (NCI). This task order will span over for the next 7 years. CTIS has been working on the CTEP informatics contract for the last 25 years. The purpose of this task order is to provide development, enhancement, maintenance, and integration support for the CTEP – Enterprise System (CTEP- ESYS) including work that involves other systems that are dependent on or integrated with the CTEP-ESYS.

CTIS’ CEO provides patient perspective as a visiting professor for Johns Hopkins University

CTIS’ CEO, Mr. Raj Shah, visiting professor for Johns Hopkins University (JHU) was invited to participate in the TIME-Global Health Course on chronic and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The course, which allows medical students both in India and in the U.S. to compare, contrast, and discuss the experience of patients with heart disease in both those countries, discusses the genetics, epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of heart disease among South Asians in the two targeted countries. The webcast included student participation from BJ Government Medical College, Pune, India; Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland; DY Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai, India; and CTIS, Inc., Rockville, Maryland.

Mr. Shah, as a recent heart transplant patient, provided patient perspective on the challenges and opportunities for the U.S., India, and beyond. He discussed the risk factors for diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease among South Asians, how to engage the healthcare system for NCD diagnosis and clinical care, and the intersection of Western and South Asian traditions. CTIS sponsors a scholarship program to connect GVN centers

CTIS, as a founding partner of International Spirit of Healing (ISOH), sponsors a scholarship program called ‘The Rina Shah Short-Term Exchange Program (STEP)’ to better connect the Global Virus Network (GVN) Centers. The program offers opportunities in skill-building and in developing collaborations between emerging medical virologists with the goal of maintaining and increasing their interest in medical virology as a career. This program will support travel of up to 2 weeks for post-doctoral level scientists and assistant professors in order to enhance medical virology skills or knowledge sets, or to develop collaborative research proposals.

CTIS has been Awarded a Grant Number U54MD008608 by NIMHD

The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), NIH has awarded a Grant Number U54MD008608 to CTIS to build a Transdisciplinary Coordination Center (TCC) as defined by The Health Policy Research Consortium (HPRC) Program. The purpose of the center, HRPC, is to close the gap in healthcare across social, ethnic, and racial groups in the DC, MD and VA area (DMV). The focus of the center is how health policies influence the access of ethnic and racial minorities to adequate and affordable healthcare. The grant award is set over a period of five years, which will allow CTIS to expand upon its commitment to reducing health disparity.

CTIS, with its motivation to leverage the power of health informatics in order to improve patient outcomes while lowering healthcare costs, has received this grant. Mr. Raj Shah, CTIS Chairman and CEO, has been recently appointed to the Global Virus Network’s (GVN) Board of Directors, as announced on January 16th by Robert C. Gallo, co-founder of the GVN and Chair of GVN’s Scientific Leadership Board. GVN is a non-profit coalition of leading medical virology research centers from around the world whose mission is to combat emerging and current viral disease through international collaborative research and training.

Mr. Terry Lierman has recently been designated as the new Chair of CSGI Inc., the parent company of CTIS Inc, Board of Director of CTIS as well as a Senior Advisor to the CTIS CEO, Mr. Raj Shah. CTIS provides information technology solutions to health systems and institutions, healthcare professionals, research organizations, and payors to support their goals in serving patients.

Terry Lierman has left his position as Chief of Staff for Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) and has entered the private sector as new Chair of CSGI Inc., Board of Director of CTIS and a Senior Advisor to the CEO at CTIS. He will oversee the company in the development of information technology solutions in the healthcare field. CTIS, CEO, Mr. Raj Shah says “CTIS is privileged to have Terry Lierman take over the responsibilities as CSGI’s chairman. Lierman began his career in the health field at the National Institutes of Health, where he assisted in budget and policy development, administration, grants and contracts. The mobile Personal Health Record (mPHR™) application is developed by CTIS, Inc. using Google Health™ as a back-end. The interoperable personal health record software solution is designed to support chronically ill patients by accurately documenting and communicating patient data, including history, conditions, medications, medical procedures, test results, etc., to doctors and other health care providers. CTIS Attends HIMSS 2011 Conference and Exhibition

Members from CTIS' executive management group participated in a variety of events at this year's Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference and Exhibition, held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. CTIS was invited to the 8th Annual SAS Health Care and Life Sciences Executive Conference on May 11-12 by Dr. Elder Granger, CTIS’ CMO and CMIO, who was an Executive Panelist for last year’s conference. IOM Digital Infrastructure Report Release

On May 23, CTIS attended the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) release and discussion of “Digital Infrastructure for the Learning Health System: The Foundation for Continuous Improvement in Health and Health Care.” This report is a summary of the Roundtable on Value & Science-Driven Health Care workshop, part of the Digital Infrastructure for the Learning Healthcare System workshop series, sponsored by ONCHIT. CTIS participated in the “Mobility: A Game Changer for African American Communities,” the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Annual Legislative Conference held on September 22 where Congressman G.K. Butterfield served as the Honorary Session Host. CTIS discussed how advances in mobile technologies provide greater economic and educational opportunities for African Americans. CTIS showcased how mobile applications in healthcare allow patients to manage chronic disease and stay abreast of medication schedules and prevention strategies.

CTIS announced as a BodyMedia Get Moving Challenge winner at the Health 2.0 Conference

CTIS was chosen as the BodyMedia Get Moving Challenge winner for the video submission. CTIS was able to demonstrate the functionality of the application at the Health 2.0 Conference on September 25-27 in San Francisco, where Mr. Steve Menke, the Chief Information Officer of BodyMedia, presented the award to the CTIS team.

CTIS invited to attend Connections for Hope Meeting with Congressman Wolf

CTIS was invited to attend a breakfast for Connections for Hope on Friday, October 28th with Congressman Frank Wolf. The Connections for Hope is an important program of Helping Children Worldwide and their mission is “To transform the lives of impoverished children through partnerships and programs of excellence”. CTIS has supported Health Level Seven's (HL7) mission of developing a cost-effective approach to system connectivity by becoming a 2011 Organizational Member. CTIS has seven HL7 v3.0 Reference Information Model (RIM) certified professionals. There are currently less than 270 people in the world who are HL7 v3.0 RIM certified; of that, less than 40 are in the United States.

CTIS Supports Health G20 and publishes an article on ‘Enabling Global Health Through ICT’

CTIS is one of the supporters of Health G20 and our CEO, Mr. Raj Shah, was requested to write an article for the book that is published to brief the G20 leaders on global public health issues. The Health G20 is produced by Pro-Brook and developed with Dr. Manuel Carballo and the International Centre for Migration, Health and Development, with the goal of campaigning to get health alongside trade and finance discussions at the G20 meetings.

This publication covers the major health issues such as malaria, non-communicable diseases, health systems strengthening, migration and climate change. The circulation of the hard copy of this book will include all those in Seoul for the G-20 Summit Meeting, including the presidents, prime ministers, health and finance ministers of the G20 nations as well as the non-G20 counterparts, leading health think-tanks and significant figures in the world of public health who might also lend their weight to this cause.

CTIS, Inc. participated in the 2010 mHealth Summit, a partnership of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH), the National Institutes of Health and the mHealth Alliance, on November 8-10, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The mHealth Summit is the leading U.S. conference focused to advance cross-sector collaboration in the use of wireless technology to improve health outcomes.

This year's conference has drawn leaders such as Bill Gates of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Ted Turner, Chairman of the United Nations Foundation, Aneesh Chopra, Chief Technology Officer of The White House, and others from around the nation to share ideas on research, technology and policy for the future of mobile technology to advance healthcare delivery to underserved U.S. communities and developing countries. Panel sessions such as The Impact and Future Visions for mHealth, Lessons Learned Across the Globe, and Optimizing Privacy and Data Security in the Mobile Technology Era will include cross-sector and cross-disciplinary discussions informed by research findings, methods for informing the evidence base, and experiences in implementing mHealth.

CTIS has been provided a speaking opportunity for one of tracks of the concurrent sessions and has been invited to attend the Keynote Luncheon featuring Bill Gates. We will have a poster presentation on iMHealthe^TM and will have a booth set-up at the mHealth conference.

Under the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Contractor Performance System (CPS), CTIS’ contractor performance is rated ‘Outstanding’

The Contracting Office and long term client, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), states that CTIS 'has demonstrated an outstanding performance level that justifies adding a point to the score. It is expected that this rating will be used in those rare circumstances where contract performance clearly exceeds the performance levels described as "Excellent." CTIS received a level 5 rating, "Outstanding," in the areas of Quality of Product or Service, Cost Controlling, Timeliness of Performance, and Business Relations.

CTIS participates in caBIG 2010 Annual Conference

CTIS, Inc. participated in the 2010 caBIG annual conference entitled “Building a Collaborative Biomedical Network”, September 13-15 in Washington, D.C. During the 2009 meeting, over 1,100 people attended representing over 300 organizations from 13 countries. CTIS, Inc. exhibited four posters at this year’s conference World Fair, a tradition at the caBIG annual meeting, where organizations participate through demonstrations and exhibitions.

The posters described the work performed on IT development in support of the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program’s (CTEP) Integrated Platform for Agents and Diseases (IPAD) and the adoption of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) technologies across the entire CTEP Enterprise System (CTEP-ESYS). The remaining posters highlighted mobile technologies CTIS has developed including a wireless solution built upon Windows Mobile 6.0 platform that allows toxicity data reporting and collection called the Safety Profiler™; and the imHealthe™ application, an interoperable Personal Health Record (PHR) software solution currently available on iPhone OS and Android OS platforms and designed to overcome the bottlenecks and redundancies existing in today’s health care system.

In addition, CTIS hosted an exhibition booth to spotlight the Software Deployment, Training and Documentation, and Help Desk services offered through the caBIG Support Service Provider (SSP) program.

CTIS participates in Institute of Medicine Workshops

CTIS’ CEO Mr. Raj Shah was invited by the IOM President, Dr. Harvey Fineberg, to participate in two IOM meetings on the “Electronic Infrastructure for the Learning Healthcare System: The Road to Continuous Improvement in Health and Healthcare”. The series was convened by the IOM Roundtable on Value and Science-Driven Health Care to inform the strategic perspectives of the sponsor, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in Washington DC.

The objectives of this series are to foster a shared understanding of the vision for an electronic infrastructure for continuous learning and quality-driven health and health care programs; explore current capacity, approaches, incentives, and policies; and identify key technologic, organizational, policy, and implementation priorities for accelerating progress on the approach to the infrastructure, and for moving beyond to a more seamless learning enterprise. The format of the meeting emphasized discussions, but the framing sessions included visions of the possibilities for an electronic infrastructure from different perspectives.

CTEP rated by CPIC number two out of six major NIH investments with a score of 9.7

The Information Technology (IT) project for the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), a contract held by CTIS, Inc. since 1991, was rated by the U.S. Capital Planning and Investment Control (CPIC) number two out of six major NIH investments (214 total investments). The CTEP Enterprise System (CTEP-ESYS) received a CPIC score of 9.7 (out of 10), as reported on the U.S. Government’s IT Dashboard, a website which reports data regarding the value of IT programs supported by the Government. The score places the CTEP-ESYS fourth out of the 75 major DHHS investments (651 total investments). The CTEP-ESYS is the primary data collection mechanism for NCI's clinical trials program, collecting safety and clinical results data on over 1,500 ongoing cancer clinical trials that monitor more than 30,000 patients per year in more than 17 disease areas. Through its commitment to this effort, CTIS, Inc. has provided NCI, CTEP with an enterprise system that supplies reliable clinical results and toxicity data for the largest sponsor of cancer clinical trials in the U.S.

CTIS’ CEO appointed to serve on the National Advisory Council on Minority Health and Health Disparities

CTIS is pleased to announce that its CEO, Mr. Raj Shah, has been appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Kathleen Sebelius, to serve on the National Advisory Council on Minority Health and Health Disparities of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for a term beginning immediately through February 2014. Mr. Shah’s appointment was nominated by The National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) Director and was supported by the NIH Director, the Majority Leader, and approved by the White House.

The council consists of 16 members appointed by the Secretary who will provide final recommendation on hundreds of research applications annually; engage in long-range program planning and policy formulations; and address/resolve technical, financial, ethical and public interest issues that face the study of minority health and health disparities. The council will have a major impact on the quality of human health. In particular, the elimination of health disparities in this country.

The World Congress 2nd Annual Leadership Summit on mHealth in Boston

CTIS participated in The World Congress’s 2nd Annual Leadership Summit on mHealth in Boston. The purpose of this conference was to provide the emerging mHealth eco-system (i.e. providers, payors, policy-makers, device manufacturers and telecomm carriers) with insight into the clinical efficiencies and business opportunities for integrating mobile technologies into the care delivery model.

NCI -NCRI Informatics Initiative Joint Conference

CTIS participated in the NCI-NCRI, a joint conference of the U.S. National Cancer Institute cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid® (caBIG®) and the U.K. National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Informatics Initiative. This meeting highlighted real-world challenges and solutions to promote the consistent use of widely accepted international data standards; strategies for building and sustaining a robust and dynamic data-sharing culture; progress in implementing a "services-aware" interoperability framework and cloud computing; and harnessing the power of data and technology to provide a foundation for widespread e-health care delivery.

Improving Medical Decisions Using Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER)

CTIS was invited to a one-day forum hosted by the Friends of Cancer Research and supported by Oracle Health Sciences. Dr. Francis Collins, Director of NIH, Dr. Carolyn Clancy, Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and other leaders discussed CER, using cancer as a use case, and explored the necessary IT required to support such research.

Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) Symposium

CTIS participated in the first annual CER Symposium: "Responding to the National CER Agenda: Evolving Data Sources and Analytics". The Lewin Group Center for CER hosted the symposium inviting senior government officials, policy and thought leaders, and academics to focus on the role data will play in the implementation of CER projects. Speakers and panels covered the uses of new data sources in CER and ways to link claims data to outcomes; the limits of randomized clinical trials in CER; propensity scoring, selection bias, and decomposition analysis; and HIPAA constraints, privacy and confidentiality.

CTIS received a GSA Information Technology Multiple Award Schedule - sponsored by the General Services Administration (GSA). CTIS participated in Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Kaseman Health Clinic

March 29, 2010: The ribbon was cut to celebrate the opening of the new Mansfield Kaseman Health Clinic, named after CTIS Vice President Rev. Mansfield “Kasey” Kaseman. The clinic, operated by the non-profit organization Community Ministries of Rockville (CMR), where Kasey served for 26 years as Executive Director, serves to provide medical services to thousands of under and uninsured adults in Montgomery County.

CTIS was instrumental in making the clinic a reality from the beginning by supporting and contributing to the focus groups meeting with healthcare professionals, area citizens and clients from human service programs to explore how to provide effective clinic services to meet the public needs. Raj Shah, CTIS CEO, stated: “We have a long standing relationship with CMR and fully support its mission-critical programs. The Mansfield Kaseman Health Clinic is the latest example of CMR meeting the human and social service needs of our community.”

The purpose of the interview was to highlight CTIS’ commitment towards personal health records, which allows patients to take control of managing their own health.

CTIS recently launched the mPHR application, which is designed to support chronically ill patients by accurately documenting and communicating patient data, including history, conditions, medications, medical procedures, test results, etc., to doctors and other health care providers.
